April the 25th 2013

Well, things have been going great.  I (mom) felt worried & a little frustrated yesterday, the 24th because Sassy has been eating pretty good up until then   She has her moments where she wouldn’t eat everything or just eat her dinner & not her breakfast no big deal but she was eating.  Yesterday she wouldn’t eat anything.  It made me feel so bad when I could hear her tummy growling.  Nothing I would give her except the Mc Donalds burger temped her oh & her yogurt in the morning.  I gave her canned food, her regular food with canned, and a couple of other things nope.  So this morning digging through the freezer to get her chicken out to boil, I found some turkey from Thanksgiving.  Thawed that out in the microwave, tried giving it to her with big bites, nope.  So I pulled it apart and broke it into small pieces.  She ate the whole plate full.  I then gave her a can of Merrick Thanksgiving Dinner she ate the smaller pieces the bigger chunks she did not want.

I checked her mouth I do not see anything that would cause her not to want to chew.  Not sure what is going on there.  But going to try some boiled chicken.  She kinda did this when she was on IV Chemo.  I am wondering if sometimes if the Metronomics has the same affect as the chemo did when she was getting it?

Another couple of weeks & coming up on our 6th month ampuversary.  She is doing so well as far as moving around and activity wise and NO COUGHING.  I just get so worried about the eating knowing she has to eat.

Hoppy 5 Months!! Sassy!! When I read your post about the eating, I thought maybe you could try to blend up the food in a blender with some broth since she seems to avoid bigger pieces and this way she could lick it and still get nourishment. When Bart was on chemo I stressed about his eating and at one point he went on a human anti-depressant which stimulated his appetite almost immediately.
Good Luck Sassy!! We love you!!

I am going to try the food processor tonight. I don’t know if she is depressed she doesn’t seem like it. She has acid reflux and has had some problems. Not sure if that is playing some part in this or not but after she did eat she let out a belch this morning so when we go for our next appointment checking to see if there is something stronger we can give than Pepcid but I don’t want to give her something everday she gets enough supplements & chemo pills.

Thank you for the comment 🙂

Sassy Sugar Bear girl you are doing so great and our Mom is taking such goodcare of yyou!

So what’s up with thinking its Thanksgiving in April!!?? And yeah’ Mom’ I’ll eat m turkey but only if you cut it up for me?? Sassy, you kw how to Hold out for only what YOU want! Way to g girl:-) 🙂 🙂

Michelle, somewhere on one of the posts of too long ago, it seemed that pepcid was actually causing stomach problems for one of the dogs. On e they switched, or took her off, her appetite improved. Your pretty savvy on how to navigate this site (unlike this dingleberry!) so hopefully you can find it.

It also seems that when a dog’s stomach is growling that’s s good thing g because it show’s the tummy is working and things are flowing. Burning
also s good sign. YAY for Sassy.burbing:-) 🙂

Sorryy, cut off as I was trying to change the word “burning” to burping!!! NO! Burning not a good sign:-) 🙂

She’s not puking’ not messy pooping, it really does just sound like a.normal tummy upset that those oddball four legged dogs get every ow and then:-)

Always good to hear your updates and would love to see more photos of your beautiful girl with that shiny coat and proud stance.

Michelle, thank you for all you do for Sassy and for the community!

I didn’t even think about that last night M, I’m thinking the metronomics could be making her appetite issues more challenging.

Darcy’s idea is really good, I like that one. I also had no idea about using antidepressants as an appetite stimulant. You may want to ask your vet about that.

Good luck! We are thinking of you and hoping for a hearty appetite tonight.
